Adoption Safety Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-20
1. Wagter’s role
Wagter provides adoption discovery, listing, interest, and adoption-focused chat tools. Wagter is not an animal shelter, veterinary provider, rescue organization, breeder, broker, escrow service, payment provider, or guarantor of any adoption.
Users are responsible for verifying listings, people, animal ownership, health information, suitability, local rules, and safe transfer arrangements before meeting or adopting.
2. Listing responsibility
If you create an adoption listing, you must provide accurate information and have the legal right to list or rehome the animal. You must not post fake listings, stolen animals, illegal sales, misleading rescue claims, scam posts, bait-and-switch listings, or content that harms animal welfare.
3. Verify before adoption
- Verify the other user’s identity and contact details.
- Confirm ownership or legal authority to rehome the animal.
- Ask for veterinary records, vaccination details, microchip details, age, behavior, and health information where relevant.
- Check local rules about animal transfer, adoption, transport, wildlife, and restricted breeds or species.
- Meet safely in a public or appropriate location and consider bringing another person when meeting offline.
4. Money, fees, and scam safety
Wagter does not process adoption payments, hold money, provide escrow, guarantee refunds, verify off-platform payments, or control any money exchanged between users.
If users choose to discuss any adoption-related cost outside Wagter, they do so independently and must verify everything carefully before sending money or meeting offline.
Be careful with deposits, transport fees, reservation fees, emergency charges, gift cards, crypto transfers, bank transfers, or any request to pay quickly before verification.
Report any user who pressures you to pay quickly, refuses verification, gives suspicious payment details, asks to move the conversation off-platform for unsafe reasons, or makes claims that feel misleading.
5. Adoption chat safety
Use adoption chat only for respectful, lawful adoption-related communication. Do not harass, threaten, scam, spam, send illegal content, request unsafe meetings, pressure users, or share unnecessary sensitive personal information.
Wagter may review adoption chat reports and related information where necessary for safety, fraud prevention, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or policy enforcement.
6. Animal welfare and illegal trade
Wagter does not allow content or behavior that promotes animal cruelty, illegal wildlife trade, trafficking, poaching, unsafe handling, deceptive sale, or harmful transfer of animals.
Listings or accounts may be removed or restricted if they raise safety, welfare, fraud, or legal concerns.
7. Reporting adoption concerns
Report suspicious listings, scams, fake rescue claims, animal welfare concerns, illegal trade, harassment, or unsafe behavior using in-app reporting tools where available or by emailing support@wagters.com.
