Last updated:

This Privacy Policy describes how Wagter ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Wagter app and related services (the "Service"). We take your privacy seriously and are committed to transparency about our data practices.

Information We Collect

  • Account Information: Email address, display name, profile photo, and bio information you choose to provide during registration and profile setup.
  • User Content: Photos, videos, captions, comments, messages, stories, and associated metadata (location tags, timestamps, device information) you submit through the Service.
  • Usage and Activity: Interactions such as likes, follows, views, shares, saves, reports, search queries, and other engagement signals that help us improve your experience.
  • Device and Log Data: Device identifiers (IDFA, AAID), IP address, operating system, app version, crash logs, diagnostic events, and performance data used for security, troubleshooting, and service improvement.
  • Communications: Records of your correspondence with our support team, including email addresses and content of inquiries.

How We Use Information

  • Service Provision: To create and manage your account, deliver content, enable social features, send notifications, and provide customer support.
  • Service Improvement: To analyze usage patterns, conduct research, test new features, fix bugs, and optimize performance across devices and regions.
  • Safety and Integrity: To detect and prevent spam, abuse, harassment, fraud, and violations of our Terms of Service, including through automated systems and human review.
  • Communications: To send service updates, security alerts, and respond to your inquiries. You can opt out of non-essential communications.
  • Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or enforceable governmental requests.

Content Moderation

To help keep the Service safe, we may review content and activity using a combination of automated tools (machine learning classifiers, hash matching) and human review where appropriate. This includes reviewing content when users submit reports, when our systems detect potential violations, or during random quality audits. We may also use third-party services to assist with content moderation.

Sharing of Information

  • Public and Social Sharing: Your profile information and content you post may be visible to other users depending on your account settings (public vs. private account). Your followers can see your posts, stories, and activity.
  • Service Providers: We share data with trusted vendors who provide hosting, cloud storage, content delivery, security services, analytics, payment processing, and customer support tools. These providers are contractually bound to use your data only for the services they provide to us.
  • Legal and Safety: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request. We may also share information to protect the safety, rights, or property of Wagter, our users, or the public, including to prevent harm or illegal activity.
  • Business Transfers: If Wagter is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change in ownership or control.
  • With Your Consent: We may share information with third parties when you explicitly authorize us to do so.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. We may retain certain information longer if necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, enforce our Terms, or protect our legitimate interests. When you delete your account, we begin the process of removing your data from our systems, which may take up to 30 days to complete. Some information may remain in backup systems for a limited period.

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Update or correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Objection: Object to certain types of processing, such as direct marketing.
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Restriction: Request limitation of processing in certain circumstances.

You can exercise many of these rights directly within the app through your account settings. For other requests, contact us at privacy@wagters.com. We will respond to legitimate requests within 30 days.

Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes encryption in transit (TLS/SSL), encryption at rest for sensitive data, access controls, and regular security audits. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and encourage you to use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication where available.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required to consent to data processing in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately at privacy@wagters.com and we will take steps to delete such information.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from your jurisdiction. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers, including standard contractual clauses approved by relevant authorities.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. We will notify you of material changes through the app or via email before they become effective. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
